Radiology Wait Time Tracker
Every outpatient imaging wait from order to final report, by modality, measured against the service standards your program sets.
- Illustrative model data
- 5 modalities
- 4 journey stages
- 26 weeks
- Week of October 5, 2026
3 of 20 measures are over target this week: MRI exam wait (9.4 days against a 7 day standard, over for 7 weeks); CT check-in to scan (38.4 minutes against a 30 minute standard, over for 3 weeks); Mammography exam wait (17.2 days against a 14 day standard, over for 3 weeks). Every other measure is inside its standard.

Where the days go
Latest week, median days in each stage. Check-in to scan is minutes and too short to show at this scale.
Breach watch
Measures over target now, and how long each has been over.
MRI: exam wait
9.4 days against 7, 134% of target. Over target every week since the week of Aug 24 (7 weeks).
CT: check-in to scan
38.4 minutes against 30, 128% of target. Over target every week since the week of Sep 21 (3 weeks).
Mammography: exam wait
17.2 days against 14, 123% of target. Over target every week since the week of Sep 21 (3 weeks).
A patient experiences one wait, not four. Choose a modality to walk its latest week from order to final report, with each stage scored against its standard.
Modality
MRI patient journey, latest week
Stage medians. The line draws one stage at a time; each dot lights when the patient reaches that point.

Rings show the latest value as a percent of target. A full ring is exactly on target; red means over.
Twenty six weeks of each measure against its target. A red flag marks the week a measure crossed its standard and stayed over.
Modality
Journey stage
MRI exam wait, median days
Dashed line is the target.
All modalities, same stage, one shared scale
Small multiples of the selected stage so modalities compare on equal footing.
Lobby waits are made in the schedule. When arrivals cluster midmorning, the minutes from check-in to scan rise with them.
Median check-in to scan by hour of arrival
Typical weekday, last four weeks, minutes.
Arrivals by hour
Average patients arriving per weekday hour, all modalities stacked.
Enter one modality’s numbers and your own standards. The board scores each stage, totals the journey and points to the levers that fit the stage that is over.

The four journey stages
- Scheduling lag
- Median days from order received to appointment booked. Captures intake, order completeness and prior authorization friction. Timestamps:
order_receivedtoscheduled_at. - Exam wait
- Median days from appointment booked to exam date. The access wait the patient feels, driven by capacity against demand. Timestamps:
scheduled_attoexam_date. - Check-in to scan
- 90th percentile minutes from arrival to scan start. The 90th percentile shows the patients who wait longest, which a median hides. Timestamps:
checkin_attoscan_start. - Report turnaround
- 90th percentile hours from scan complete to signed final report. The referring physician’s wait. Timestamps:
scan_endtofinal_signed.
How the board scores
- Status
- Over target when the value exceeds its standard; near when it is at 90 percent of the standard or higher; otherwise within target.
- Approximate journey
- Sum of the stage medians, with report hours divided by 24. Board totals are weighted by each modality’s weekly exams. Medians do not add exactly, so treat it as an indicator, not a measured patient journey.
- Weekly cadence
- Weeks start Monday. Review the board weekly; act on a measure that is over for two consecutive weeks rather than on a single spike.
- About this data
- Illustrative model data built to show how the tracker reads. It describes no real facility. The targets are example service standards; replace them with your own.
